Who is Musty Mustapha?
Musty Mustapha is a Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Kuda Bank. Also known as “The Bank of the Free.” Kuda Microfinance Bank is the first full-service digital bank in Nigeria. It’s also the first mobile-only bank to be licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Musty obtained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Ilorin. He graduated with a first-class degree. He furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Lagos.
He has worked with many companies in Nigeria. Some of them are Xputer Technologies, Obong University, Cbc Emea, Keystone Bank Limited, First Bank of Nigeria, Kudi Money, Stanbic IBTC, and of course, Kuda Microfinance Bank.
In January 2017, Musty Mustapha co-founded Kudi Money alongside Babs Ogundeyi, an accountant and financial advisory. Kudi Money was the first online-based lending and savings platform in Nigeria. It was rebranded to Kuda Microfinance Bank in 2019 after it was licensed by the CBN.
Early life and education
After graduating from his Senior Secondary School, Musty Mustapha enrolled at the University of Ilorin in 2007. He studied computer science and he graduated in 2011.
Having graduated with a First Class degree, he furthered his computer science career at the University of Lagos in 2012. Here, he earned his Master of Science degree.
Career and employment history
Xputer Technologies Ibadan
Between July 2010 to October 2011, Musty Mustapha worked as a Software Developer at Xputer Technologies. He was handling the development of website applications, Standalone Applications, the code library, and Framework development for this company.
Obong University
Between December 2011 to October 2012, Musty worked as an Assistant Lecturer at Obong University. He taught students data structure and algorithm courses.
CBC Emea
Between February 2013 to March 2014, Musty Mustapha was a Software Developer at CBC Towers. He handled the development, testing, and support of Enterprise applications.
Keystone Bank Limited
From March 2014 to May 2014, Mr. Mustapha worked with Keystone Bank Limited as a Solutions Developer. He was in charge of the bank’s customer solution development, system analysis, and design.
First Bank of Nigeria Limited
Between May 2014 to March 2015, Musty Mustapha worked at First Bank of Nigeria as Business Solutions Developer.
He engaged in business analysis, requirement gathering, high-level application support, and maintenance. He also handled system development, coding, and Low-Level Technical Documentation for this bank.
Stanbic IBTC
Musty Mustapha started working with Stanbic IBTC in March 2015. He was a Software Engineer, and he was in charge of Bespoke application development and Business automation.
In January 2017, he was promoted to the post of Senior Software Development Engineer. He later led a team of experienced software development experts to execute the digital strategy of Stanbic Bank.
Kudi Money
In January 2017, while he was still an employee with Stanbic IBTC, Musty Mustapha co-founded Kudi Money together with Babs Ogundeyi. Babs is an accountant and a former Special Adviser to the Oyo State Government on Finance.
In 2019, Kudi Money became the first digital-only bank in Nigeria to be licensed by the CBN. The two founders took advantage of this opportunity and rebranded Kudi Money into what we now know as Kuda Bank.
Kuda Microfinance Bank
Apart from being a co-founder, Musty Mustapha has been working as the Chief Technology Officer of Kuda Microfinance Bank, since 2018.

Engineer Mustapha has received many awards while also having some achievements. Some of them are listed below.
1. Received the University Scholar Award at the University of Ilorin for 3 consecutive years. One in September 2008, one in October 2009, and another in October 2010.
2. Musty Mustapha founded De07. This group of programming enthusiasts started the development and deployment of the First E-voting System at the University of Ilorin.
3. Musty Mustapha received one of the Best Graduating Students Award In Computer Science. This was also at the University of Ilorin in October 2011, when he graduated with a first-class degree.
4. He was awarded a UMA Postgraduate Scholarship by the University of Lagos Muslim Alumni in July 2013.
5. Musty Mustapha also received the Stanbic IBTC Beyond Excellence Award in June 2016.
6. He was made an Advisory Board Member by EC-Council in March 2018.
